Tongariro Crossing

It's the Tongariro National Park that's a UNESCO world heritage site. The Tongariro Crossing is a hikers' route across the park – renamed the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in 2007 to emphasise its serious nature (despite moderate altitude). The Crossing is said to be one of the world's best one–day hikes.
